Case Study

Investigation to locate person as part of beneficiary tracing

When:
2024
Where:
UK
Services involved:
Litigation Support

Our investigations team was instructed by a law firm to locate an individual required in litigation.

The individual in question was elderly, had no known relatives, and as such, had no obvious online presence or immediately known links.

This rendered conventional investigative techniques insufficient, prompting the exploration of alternative avenues of research.

The process

Our team conducted OSINT, employing all of the tools and skills available to them.

This encompassed the utilisation of open and closed-source databases, along with thorough investigations into local news outlets, obituary information, and various other publicly available sources that could guide us in the right direction.

This eventually led us to a tenuous link to the individual.

The result

From this initial thread of information, we were able to broaden our research efforts, expand our intelligence picture, and eventually identify a potential linked address to the individual.

Subsequently, this led to a site visit at the address, which confirmed the identity of the individual.

The law firm successfully and swiftly located the individual and were able to proceed with litigation and award the individual their beneficiary.
